April Yvette and Bethenny Frankel

(April Yvette with Bethenny Frankel)

———————————————————————-

I met Bethenny Frankel at the Madame Walker Theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana on Mon. Mar. 2nd, 2015. Bethenny is a reality TV personality, Founder of Skinnygirl cocktails, author of four books, hosted the TV show Bethenny. She appeared on The Apprentice, Real Housewives of NY, Bethenny Ever After and more. Her networth is a reported $25 Million from the sale of her Skinnygirl brand.

During the event, I listened carefully to hear Bethenny share what helped her become successful in business.

From my perspective (and hers), this is how Bethenny became famous and became a multi-millionaire business owner.

1. Bethenny says, “Execution” is the secret to her success. She was willing to do the hard work to get what she desired.

(A) I agree. Taking the right actions daily is essential to creating what you want.

2. Bethenny said, “I’ve always been in situations that turned out to be a big deal.” This is a belief she has. And as a result, she got what she believed. She was always in the right place at the right time.

(A) The root source of her persistent execution was coming from her beliefs and passion. We all get what we believe. If what you want isn’t showing up, change your beliefs to be in alignment with what you desire.

3. Failure. She said she had a couple failed businesses that taught her lessons. However, she remained flexible and open to other options. She is a natural foods chef and was also open to other opportunities. She said she wanted to be an actress but realized she wasn’t that good at acting, she was better at being herself. Bingo! She was cast on a reality TV show. She got to be herself. That was a better fit for her.

(A) Failure should be celebrated! It’s part of the journey to help steer you towards the right path. And being flexible and willing to change course quickly is important for business owners and in life.

4. An emotionally compelling story. Bethenny said she has struggled and had failed businesses in the past. Most of us love an authentic underdog story. I sure do.

Since the beginning, TV producers have told her story in an emotionally compelling way that truly connected to the audience. Her TV fans could relate to her emotional experiences with marriage, having a baby, conflict in relationships and friendships, her entrepreneurial climb to success, and even getting divorced. It made her audience think… “I’ve felt that way before too” or “She’s like me” or “I want to do that too”. That creates an emotional connection with people. And that emotional connection is why her fans opt in to her list, connect on social media, watch her shows, and buy her stuff.

(A) The ONLY way to build a following and/or loyal customers is through being your authentic self. Bethenny is known for speaking her mind and her fans love that about her. She’s not trying to be like anyone else but herself.

Other ways to build a following is having pure intentions, a compelling story, create an authentic connection with people, shared beliefs and detachment to outcome. And it can’t be fake. A slick marketing tactic turns people off. They can sense when we are being real or not.

For me, The biggest lesson I’ve learned was to get out of my head and let my heart lead. Passion, love and pure intentions is critical for lasting success. I’m so grateful I finally got this lesson.

5. Regular National TV exposure attracts more opportunities and builds a following. Bethenny applied to be on the Apprentice TV show and was cast on the show. Being on that show caused the tipping point in her career due to the national TV exposure to millions of people weekly. This helped her start building a following.

(A) It’s important to have a system to be seen by a lot of the right people weekly in order to build a following and generate sales when done authentically. This is the law of conversion. Understanding, measuring, testing and tracking is critical to business success.

6. Mentors and advisers gave her excellent advice. The TV exposure helped her attract the right mentors and advisers to give her good advice on how to steer the ship she had created. They led her down the road of representing “health and fitness”. Hence the Skinny Girl brand and books. That was the billion dollar industry that she could be part of. She was naturally good at being skinny, she was already a natural foods chef and she liked to drink cocktails with friends. This made a good alignment for who she was authentically. The right mentors and excellent advice can be a game-changer in business and in life.

(A) Find someone you can trust and who has the skill and knowledge to help you. You don’t have to know every detail. Just surround yourself with smart people.

7. Having a huge following/fans is why Bethenny got book deals, got the multi-million dollar Skinny Girl Cocktail deal, got her own spin off TV show “Bethenny Ever After”, got speaking engagements, and the opportunities keep coming. Success attracts more success and more publicity. It starts a snowball affect. And that’s what happened for Bethenny.

(A) Those who can build their own huge following of subscribers/fans, could be offered big deals just like Bethenny too. Why? Because potential business partners & advertisers look to partner with people who have a large (specific) following. For them, this offers less risk and a higher probability for sales.

(A) Let’s explore the spiritual side of success. It’s possible to make a lot of money through sheer will. I’ve been there. There was a time in my life when I worked hard, was broke and unhappy. I’ve also worked hard, generated millions of dollars and been unhappy. The ultimate goal in life is freedom, peace, being truly happy and have plenty. This is possible.

(A) I believe the real purpose behind being blessed with a platform of followers is for a higher calling on your life. A message or a cause that’s important to you. Something meaningful. “To much is given, much is expected” always come to mind. In my opinion, this means egoless leadership. It’s selfless service for the greater good of mankind. God’s work through you. Some famous people get this and some don’t ever realize it. Those who do, are the one’s that are truly happy, fulfilled and have the highest networth. Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates get this.

(A) Money is a by product of being yourself, knowing your higher calling, passion, love, trust, pure intentions, connection, shared beliefs, delivering excellent value, consistently being seen by the right people, a clear point of difference, systems, execution, focus, math, and surrender.

In closing, Bethenny Frankel wasn’t an overnight success. No one is. Being authentic and working hard got her there. I wish her even more success and to be truly happy in life.

In friendship,

April Yvette
